Field Operations Engineer

About the role

Anduril Industries is seeking a Field Operations Engineer to stand up, execute, and continuously improve Extra Large Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (XLAUV) field operations in Sydney. This role bridges engineering, operations, and customer mission success, delivering outcomes in the field and feeding insights back into product development.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor AUVs in real-time, coordinating launch and recovery evolutions and day‑to‑day operational activities.
• Support end‑to‑end deployment planning, including mission route optimisation, risk assessment, and equipment readiness.
• Provide forward technical support across software and hardware, leading field maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades.
• Develop and refine SOPs, deliver structured customer feedback to engineering, and contribute to XLAUV capability evolution.
• Partner with customers, delivering on‑site support and training for user teams.

Required profile

• Operational ownership mindset with responsibility for mission outcomes in high‑consequence environments.
• Systems thinker able to diagnose issues across hardware, software, sensors, communications, and support equipment.
• Field‑ready engineer comfortable working dockside, offshore, or in remote maritime settings.
• Customer‑centric operator who builds trust, communicates clearly, and translates feedback into actionable insights.
• Process builder who improves SOPs, identifies gaps, and raises safety and performance standards.

Required skills

• Degree or equivalent experience in engineering, robotics, marine systems, mechatronics, electrical, mechanical, or related field.
• Experience supporting autonomous systems, marine platforms, robotics, or complex fielded systems.
• Ability to perform diagnostics, repairs, system upgrades, and configuration management in field conditions.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time and operate in maritime environments.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an NV2 security clearance.
