Experienced Drafter – Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Experienced Drafter to support its Rail & Metro team on complex transport infrastructure projects across Australia. You will produce high‑quality drafting and documentation, ensuring compliance with SMEC and client standards while working in a collaborative, digitally enabled environment.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for rail infrastructure projects.
• Deliver construction‑level documentation in line with project requirements.
• Apply SMEC drafting standards, quality assurance processes, and client specifications.
• Manage drawing outputs to meet project timelines and milestones.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design delivery.
• Maintain and manage data within Common Data Environments such as ProjectWise.
• Check and review drawings to ensure quality and accuracy.
• Support continuous improvement in digital delivery and drafting practices.

Required profile

• Capable and detail‑oriented drafter with experience in rail or metro projects.
• Ability to work closely with engineers, designers, and project teams.
• Strong commitment to delivering accurate, buildable design documentation.
