Executive Project Manager – Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is seeking an Executive Project Manager to lead high‑value rail and metro projects from concept to delivery. Based in North Sydney, you will work in a flexible hybrid environment, driving innovative and cost‑effective solutions for complex, nationally significant infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Provide governance and project management for multi‑disciplinary rail projects, ensuring commercial, design, schedule and quality targets are met.
• Lead negotiations on contracts and financial outcomes for projects exceeding $10 million.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through successful delivery and targeted engagement.
• Guide and develop project teams, fostering cohesion, optimal performance and professional growth.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of deliverables.
• Contribute to business development and commercial success of the practice.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 20 years of project management experience on rail infrastructure, including high‑speed rail (desirable).
• Proven track record delivering projects valued at $10–18 million+ on time and within budget.
• Strong communication skills to advise on design development and represent the SMEC design team.
