Executive Manager Quality, Compliance and Safety

About the role
The Executive Manager, Quality, Compliance and Safety will lead quality assurance, compliance oversight and work health and safety (WHS) across Forensic Science Queensland’s service delivery. Reporting to the Director, the role provides strategic leadership, ensures accreditation and legislative compliance, and drives continuous improvement in a complex scientific environment.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and maintain oversight of quality and compliance standards to ensure high‑quality forensic services.
- Support the Director and Deputy Directors in developing and implementing a proactive quality, compliance and safety framework.
- Provide independent advice on quality, WHS, compliance, training and governance to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with certification, accreditation, regulatory and legislative requirements, including sample retention, storage and disposal.
- Identify organisational risks, advise on minimisation strategies and monitor risk mitigation.
- Participate in the FSQ Leadership Team, influencing decisions on quality, compliance and operational performance.
- Coordinate service delivery goals and lead performance monitoring and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of national and international trends in quality, compliance, safety and learning development.
- Represent FSQ on state, national or international committees related to forensic science standards.
- Lead a small corporate team responsible for quality, compliance, safety and training.
Required profile
- Proven leadership experience in quality, compliance and WHS within a scientific or forensic environment.
- Strong knowledge of accreditation, legislative and policy requirements relevant to forensic services.
- Ability to provide strategic advice and risk‑management guidance to senior executives.
- Experience working collaboratively with senior directors and cross‑functional teams.
- Demonstrated capability to drive continuous improvement and operational performance.
- Excellent communication skills for representing the organisation on external committees.
