Executive Director – Great Barrier Reef & World Heritage

About the role
The Executive Director will lead Queensland's whole‑of‑government agenda for protecting the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage areas. Reporting to the Deputy Director‑General, EHPP, this senior position provides strategic direction for nationally significant environmental programs.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the Reef 2050 Long‑Term Sustainability Plan and related water quality strategies.
- Govern and coordinate major programs, ensuring alignment with government priorities and ministerial expectations.
- Build and maintain influential partnerships with government agencies, Traditional Owners, industry, research organisations and community groups.
- Advise the Minister, Director‑General and senior executives on complex policy, environmental and program issues.
- Represent Queensland in high‑level forums, committees and national partnerships related to the Reef and World Heritage.
- Lead a high‑performing team, fostering collaboration, innovation and accountability.
- Oversee program governance, performance reporting and risk management across a diverse portfolio.
Required profile
- Proven executive experience leading complex, cross‑government programs.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influence across diverse groups.
- Strong strategic thinking with a track record of delivering environmental outcomes.
- Ability to navigate political and cultural complexities and build consensus.
