Engineering Lead/Manager, Risk (Relocate to Singapore)

About the role

Airwallex is seeking an Engineering Lead/Manager to own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of real‑time detection systems and client‑facing fraud management products. You will lead a mission‑critical risk platform, aligning technical direction with business goals, regulatory requirements, and global scale.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the roadmap for fraud detection and risk management services, improving detection rates, reducing false positives, and optimizing cost efficiency.
• Partner with product, design, operations, data, SRE, security, and global engineering teams to remove blockers and deliver measurable outcomes.
• Build and scale a high‑performing engineering organisation, setting goals, career paths, and fostering inclusion and excellence.
• Stay hands‑on with architecture reviews, critical code, APIs, and incident response to raise design and quality standards.
• Own system quality for real‑time decisioning services, ensuring reliability, scalability, high availability, and throughput.

Required profile

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including 2+ years in engineering management of complex distributed systems.
• Experience in risk management or fintech product engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Proven ability to turn ambiguity into decisive roadmaps and measurable results.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Java (multithreading, high‑concurrency, I/O/NIO, network programming).
• Experience with Spring or Spring Boot, HTTP, TCP/IP, REST, Gradle or Maven.
• Hands‑on Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, caching, partitioning, consistency models, and resilience patterns.
• Familiarity with Cassandra, Redis, NoSQL, Hadoop, Kafka, Flink or Spark.
• Experience with Kotlin, Scala, Python or Golang.
• Cloud experience on Alibaba Cloud, AWS or GCP.
