Engineering Director - Print

About the role

Canva is looking for an Engineering Director to lead the Print engineering organisation. You will shape technical strategy, drive product expansion and mentor engineering leaders across a global, e‑commerce‑first print business.

Key responsibilities

• Set and deliver Print’s technical strategy with Product and Design, translating commercial goals into a scalable engineering roadmap.
• Build foundations to accelerate the launch of new print products, mock‑ups and customer experiences.
• Evolve partner integration capabilities with repeatable platform patterns while staying close to critical partners.
• Strengthen global commerce systems, including payments and reliable checkout experiences.
• Coach and grow Engineering Leads, creating a strong leadership pipeline.
• Own the quality of technical decisions, balancing platform investment, delivery speed and customer experience.
• Make engineering trade‑offs clear for Product, Design and commercial stakeholders.
• Foster a high‑performing, growth‑oriented culture through hiring, development and performance management.
• Drive engineering’s contribution to Print’s commercial growth and revenue outcomes.
• Champion practical AI adoption in both customer experience and team operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading engineering organisations at scale, including coaching managers and leads.
• Strong technical judgement with ability to weigh long‑term trade‑offs.
• Track record of turning technical strategy into actionable roadmaps.
• Commercial mindset, understanding how engineering decisions impact revenue.
• Excellent communication and rapport building across product, design, operations and partners.
• Comfortable in fast‑growing, ambiguous environments where the role evolves.
• Experience running an e‑commerce or marketplace business is a strong plus.
• Genuine people leader who builds inclusive, high‑performing cultures and manages performance fairly.
