Engineer, System Planning

About the role

AEMO is seeking an Engineer to join its System Planning team. You will apply technical expertise to assess power system capability, analyse performance, and develop solutions that support both current and future stakeholder needs across the National Electricity Market.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert engineering analysis and advice for power system planning, navigating uncertainty and diverse stakeholder requirements.
• Deliver technical support on electricity planning and system performance to ensure safe, secure, and reliable operation.
• Contribute to major planning publications such as the Integrated System Plan (ISP), Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO), and system security reports.
• Prepare clear, high‑quality reports and insights on network capability, system performance, and planning issues for management and project teams.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve strategic planning outcomes and support continuous process improvement.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., mathematics, engineering, physics).
• Strong engineering judgement and understanding of power system fundamentals.
• Ability to work with limited information and manage complex, uncertain scenarios.
