Engineer - Power Systems Software

About the role

The Engineering Developer Services (EDS) team at AEMO builds and maintains tools that enable power system engineers to model the electricity network, analyse outages and faults, and plan future network upgrades. This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position that can be performed from multiple locations across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Write enterprise‑quality code using SQL, Python and Vue.js.
• Collaborate with Power System Engineers to refactor existing Python‑based analysis tools to meet enterprise standards, ensuring robustness and compatibility with AEMO’s in‑house platform.
• Add new functionality to Python‑based power system analysis tools.
• Champion a culture of customer support, user experience and software quality.
• Identify and advocate for process improvements.

Required profile

• Energy sector experience is desirable but not essential.
• Experience with Python QA tooling such as pylint, mypy and coverage.
• Proficiency with version‑control systems (e.g., Git) and test‑driven development.
• Experience developing graphical user interfaces with Vue.js is a plus.
• Knowledge of power system analysis and grid technologies (e.g., DERMS, SCADA) is beneficial.
