Engine Optimisation Manager (GEO, AEO, SEO)
Commonwealth Bank · Sydney
Job description
About the role
The Engine Optimisation (EO) team sits within Marketing > Media and leads the strategy and evolution of organic discoverability across Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). As an EO Manager, you will lead EO strategy and performance across assigned portfolios, acting as a trusted partner to senior and cross-functional stakeholders and helping move complex work from recommendation to implementation. The role is based in Sydney, full time, on a 12-month fixed-term contract with 50% office attendance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead EO strategy and optimisation across assigned portfolios, connecting GEO, AEO and SEO into a broader approach to organic discoverability.
- Build trusted relationships with marketing, product, content, analytics, technology, media, PR, Corporate Affairs, Risk & Compliance and AI teams, and influence decisions across competing priorities and approval pathways.
- Translate complex search, AI, technical and performance concepts into clear recommendations for technical, non-technical and senior audiences.
- Measure and improve visibility across search and AI discovery environments, including share of voice, citations, sources and sentiment.
- Champion technical and content foundations such as crawlability, indexation, information architecture, structured data, schema, taxonomy and machine-readable content.
- Work with content, PR, Corporate Affairs, social, media and partnerships to strengthen CommBank's presence on owned and third-party discovery surfaces.
- Partner with the EO Advanced Analyst to turn evidence into portfolio strategies and priorities, and help evolve EO measurement by linking visibility signals with customer behaviour and business outcomes.
- Share insights with the wider EO team, promote practical EO standards and guardrails, and build EO capability through knowledge sharing and training.
- Brief, challenge and collaborate with agency and technology partners, and use tools such as BrightEdge, Google Search Console, GA4 and Adobe Analytics to measure performance.
Required profile
- Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills, able to drive outcomes with teams you do not directly manage.
- Strong SEO expertise, including technical, content and authority signals.
- Familiarity with GEO, AEO, generative search and how people use AI to discover information.
- Experience managing SEO or organic discoverability across large, complex digital properties.
- Strong analytical skills and excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts simply.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities while keeping stakeholder relationships strong.
- A degree in digital marketing, communications, technology, data analytics or a related discipline is welcome, but practical experience matters most.
- Experience in financial services, another regulated industry or a complex enterprise environment is advantageous.
Required skills
- Technical SEO, information architecture, structured data and schema
- SEO platforms and analytics tools (BrightEdge, Google Search Console, GA4, Adobe Analytics)
- Emerging AI/LLM visibility measurement approaches
