Emergency and Critical Care Veterinarian (Casual)

About the role

Adelaide University is recruiting a casual Emergency and Critical Care Veterinarian (HEO 8) based at the Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital. The role provides 24/7 emergency and critical care to a growing caseload of small animal patients on a roster of various shifts, within a team of veterinarians, nurses and support staff reporting to the Head of Emergency and Critical Care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency and critical care to small animals on a 24/7 roster
• Work with advanced imaging such as CT, alongside a dedicated radiographer and an onsite veterinary diagnostic laboratory, collaborating with pathologists
• Contribute to the clinical education of final-year veterinary students through case management and hands-on learning
• Take part in daily case discussions and complex clinical decision-making with academic specialists

Required profile

• Veterinary qualification with eligibility to be registered in South Australia
• Experience in first-opinion or emergency services, including emergency surgery
• Enthusiasm and experience in assisting, teaching or mentoring others

Required skills

• Strong communication with clients and team members
• High-level written communication, including medical records, referral letters and client correspondence

What we offer

• Casual role with various shifts on a 24/7 roster
• Pay of $76.09 to $85.36 per hour plus 12% employer superannuation contribution
• Loadings of 15% to 40% for work outside normal hours
