Electrical Engineer – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

About the role

The Electrical Engineer – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will support tendering, testing, commissioning and after‑sales service of Toshiba’s energy storage solutions across Australia and internationally. You will work closely with engineering, project delivery and customer teams to ensure safe, compliant and reliable system deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for BESS, UPS and related equipment.
• Commission systems on‑site, troubleshoot issues and provide root‑cause analysis.
• Support design, configuration and programming phases with the BESS/UPS engineering team.
• Provide phone and online technical support, including remote diagnostics, to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Participate in safety‑in‑design risk assessments and ensure compliance with Australian and international standards.
• Collaborate with Toshiba teams in Japan and the USA and liaise with external bodies such as TNSPs, DNSPs, AEMO and certification agencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), UPS, power electronics or substations, preferably in commissioning or design.
• Proven experience conducting FAT, SAT, commissioning and on‑site testing activities.
• Knowledge of Australian electrical standards (AS/NZS) and grid connection requirements (e.g., AEMO processes) is desirable.
• Willingness to travel domestically and work on remote sites up to 4‑8 weeks per year.
