Education Support Trainee (School Based)

About the role

Westvic Staffing Solutions, in partnership with Meeniyan Primary School, is offering an Education Support Traineeship starting in Term One 2027. The trainee works under the guidance and direct supervision of a teacher, supporting the school's teaching staff so that classroom and recreational programs run smoothly and efficiently. The role is paid and leads to a nationally recognised School Based Education Support qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with student educational activities and programs, and help students access the curriculum and take part in learning.
• Support daily routines, transitions and programs of young children, and monitor students during classroom and outdoor activities.
• Care for students' social, emotional and physical needs and support the development of literacy and numeracy skills.
• Support students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and with disability and additional needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Help teachers supervise students and manage yard duty, and assist with sports, art or technology equipment.
• Prepare materials, equipment and classrooms, and help with administration such as editing Word documents, photocopying and laminating.
• Attend staff meetings and training (for example First Aid), canteen work, excursions and out-of-school hours care such as breakfast and after-school programs.
• Encourage understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and promote positive behaviour, safety, health and well-being.

Required profile

• A genuine interest in working with children and gaining school experience.
• Positive attitude, effective communication skills and enjoyment of helping students take part in school activities.
• Reliable, respectful, organised, conscientious and committed; able to follow instructions and work independently.
• Ability to complete online study requirements for a nationally recognised Certificate III, IV or Diploma in School Based Education Support.
• Working With Children Check.
