Economics Advisor

About the role

Shell is hiring an Economics Advisor in Brisbane as part of the Australia Economics team and the Commercial community. The role provides high-quality economic advice and decision analysis for Shell's business opportunities, acting as a trusted investment advisor and "guardian of value" for customers across QGC and Arrow. It sits within the Integrated Gas business unit.

Key responsibilities

• Provide investment analysis and economic evaluations, following the Decision Quality model, and support robust uncertainty and risk analysis
• Deliver timely, professional valuation products and insights for decision-making forums, investment reviews and annual operating plan/reserves submissions
• Challenge, steer and assess project decisions such as concept selection, final investment decisions, commercial negotiations, exploration bids and portfolio activities
• Prioritise workloads across multiple clients and deliver on time with support from the East Economics Team Lead
• Implement global best practices across the Global and Shell Australia Economic Community, partnering with data providers and stakeholders
• Take part in global economics discipline improvement efforts (decision analysis, standards and guidelines, tools, knowledge management)

Required profile

• Relevant experience in a commercially oriented consulting or corporate environment
• Degree in Business, Economics/Finance, Mathematics, Engineering or Geoscience; direct experience in energy markets and value chains preferred
• Experience with financial modelling for asset valuations, new business development and/or exploration screening
• Australian citizenship or permanent residency

Required skills

• Advanced Excel skills; experience building financial models is an advantage
• Strong analytical ability and clear communication of decision impacts
• Understanding of discounted cash flow performance measures; accounting, treasury, market risk or corporate finance knowledge is an advantage
