Early Career Aboriginal Heritage Consultant

About the role

ERM's National Heritage Team is recruiting an Early Career Aboriginal Heritage Consultant to join its NSW/ACT Heritage Team. The team works on heritage and interdisciplinary projects across Australia and internationally, and this role offers the chance to develop professional and technical skills in a supportive, multi-disciplinary consultancy. The position can be based in the Sydney, Canberra or Newcastle office.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare cultural heritage assessments and management plans
• Carry out Aboriginal stakeholder engagement and consultation
• Conduct field surveys, research and write reports
• Travel in NSW and interstate to run archaeological fieldwork programs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree with honours or equivalent in Aboriginal archaeology, history or anthropology
• At least 1-2 years of field experience in New South Wales
• Good rapport with Traditional Owners, working collaboratively and respectfully in the field
• Unrestricted Australian driver's licence
• Willingness to travel in NSW and interstate

Required skills

• Good understanding of NSW heritage legislation and the Aboriginal consultation process
• Experience preparing Due Diligence and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments
• Experience carrying out AHIMS and other NSW/ACT heritage database searches
• Desirable: supervision of field assessments, White Card, Senior First Aid certificate, 4x4 off-road and recovery certificate, and experience in historical and built heritage
