Duty Manager – Remote Community Store

About the role

The Duty Manager will support the Store Manager in daily operations of a remote community store, ensuring residents have access to essential goods, nutrition, and safe shopping experiences. This position is based in a remote Northern Australian community and includes accommodation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Store Manager with day‑to‑day store operations on a fortnightly roster, including weekends and evenings.
• Perform physical tasks such as unloading pallets, restocking shelves, and handling manual loads.
• Manage store closing procedures and reconcile end‑of‑day cash.
• Coach and train local staff to promote routine employment.
• Oversee café or takeaway services while maintaining food safety standards.
• Participate in stocktakes, safety audits, and compliance checks.
• Commit to a 6‑12 month development pathway toward a Store Management role.

Required profile

• Resilient leader with a hands‑on approach and respect for cultural diversity.
• Minimum 3 years experience in retail or a fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to work in remote locations and live in provided accommodation.
• Physical fitness for extended standing and manual handling.
• Unrestricted NT C Class driver’s licence (or ability to obtain).
• Certificate III in Retail (or ability to obtain).

Required skills

• Proficiency with Point of Sale (POS) systems.
• Experience using electronic stock control and staff management tools.
