Driver Trainer (Train Crew Development Specialist)

About the role

Pacific National, Australia's largest private rail freight operator, is looking for a Driver Trainer to lead train crew development at its Sarina depot in Queensland. The role reports to the Superintendent and delivers hands-on and classroom training, assesses competency and works with supervisors to keep operations safe and high performing. It is a permanent full-time position on a 6 days on / 5 days off roster.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prioritise and deliver compliant technical driver training
• Train, assess and mentor train crew to meet Rail Safety Worker competency requirements
• Develop and manage individual training plans aligned to operational needs
• Ensure competencies, assessments, currency and records are completed on time
• Work with Operational Leaders and Training Specialists to ensure consistent outcomes
• Promote a strong safety culture and knowledge-sharing environment

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Mainline or Mentor Driver (currently accredited)
• Strong track record of safe locomotive operations
• Current Cert IV in Train Driving (to be uploaded during the application process)
• Cert IV in Training & Assessment (TAE)
• Commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement
• Ability to coach, assess and mentor others effectively

Required skills

• Intermediate computer skills (MS Office and training/compliance systems)
• Clear and confident communication at all levels
