Director, Health Research Institute

About the role

The Director of the Torrens AXIS Health Research Institute will provide strategic leadership for a premier health research institute, shaping research programmes that address priority health and biomedical science challenges. You will foster a vibrant research culture, support Higher Degree by Research candidates, and build strong industry and global collaborations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and expand recognised research programmes in public health, health systems, clinical sciences, cardiovascular medicine and haematology.
• Develop and align research themes with the university’s research framework and quality standards.
• Secure research funding, manage complex multi‑team projects, and oversee financial stewardship.
• Strengthen partnerships with industry, government and international research networks to translate findings into health outcomes.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration, digital health and AI‑enabled research across the institute.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in health or biomedical research.
• Track record of obtaining competitive research grants and managing large research portfolios.
• Experience supervising HDR candidates and building research training environments.
• Strong ability to engage industry partners and drive commercialisation of research.
