Design Engineer – Rail Signalling Power & LV Systems

About the role

Deliver signalling power and low‑voltage electrical design for rail train‑control modernisation projects in Perth, reporting to engineering leadership and supporting construction teams through surveys, reviews and technical resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review power calculations, drawings, models, specifications and technical reports.
• Coordinate signalling, electrical, communications, civil and structural design interfaces.
• Conduct inspections, surveys, constructability checks and interdisciplinary reviews.
• Apply Safety in Design, WHS, environmental and ISO 9001 quality requirements.
• Assess technical risks, develop value improvements and support procurement and construction.

Required profile

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum five years experience designing electrical infrastructure, especially LV, ELV or signalling power.
• Knowledge of Australian rail standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/RISSB) and rail authority requirements including PTA WA.
• Eligibility for Chartered status, professional registration and RIW accreditation preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with design and drafting software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Ability to perform power calculations and produce technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of Safety in Design and quality‑management processes.
