Deputy-Chief Remote Pilot & Maintenance Controller

About the role

We are seeking a Deputy‑Chief Remote Pilot & Maintenance Controller to lead the maintenance and operational compliance of our Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) under the department’s ReOC. This senior position combines strategic oversight of aircraft maintenance with deputy chief remote pilot duties.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all scheduled and unscheduled RPAS maintenance activities to ensure airworthiness in line with CASA regulations.
• Develop and maintain asset management programmes for aircraft and equipment procurement, maintenance and replacement.
• Maintain accurate serviceability records and ensure maintenance is performed according to the approved Maintenance Manual and schedules.
• Supervise approved pilots and maintenance staff, verifying their competency and compliance with CASA requirements.
• Investigate defects, enforce maintenance standards and keep required records for CASA and departmental audits.
• Act as Deputy‑Chief Remote Pilot, relieving the Chief Remote Pilot when required, including assessment and approval of flight plans.
• Support safe and lawful flight operations, training, and proficiency monitoring for all pilots and crew.
• Ensure compliance with Queensland Government Drones Strategy, Drones Use Policy and DES RPAS Policy, and coordinate approvals for operations in controlled airspace.

Required profile

• Current PO6 level appointment as Deputy‑Chief Remote Pilot & Maintenance Controller.
• Extensive experience in RPAS maintenance and operations under a Civil Aviation Safety Authority ReOC.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage compliance documentation.
