Deputy Chief Financial Officer

About the role

James Cook University (JCU) is looking for an accomplished finance leader to join its Townsville campus as Deputy Chief Financial Officer. Reporting to the CFO, the role provides strategic leadership across the University's budgeting, forecasting and finance business partnering functions, and works with the University Executive to influence strategic decisions and strengthen financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Influence university-wide strategy and decisions as a trusted adviser to senior executives.
• Lead financial transformation and a high-performing finance team.
• Develop long-term financial plans that support JCU's strategic priorities.
• Provide expert financial guidance on complex initiatives, undertake financial modelling and scenario planning, and deliver financial insights.
• Build financial capability across the University and foster accountability and financial literacy among leaders and budget holders.

Required profile

• Tertiary and postgraduate qualifications and professional accounting credentials (CPA or CA).
• Substantial leadership experience in large, complex organisations, including leading financial planning and influencing strategic decisions.
• Track record of leading change and continuous improvement in financial processes, systems and business performance.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with senior executives and diverse stakeholders.
