Dental Assistant – Full-Time and Casual Positions

About the role

1300SMILES Smithfield, a general and restorative dental practice in Smithfield Shopping Centre, Cairns, is looking for two Dental Assistants: one full-time and one casual. It is a primarily chairside role supporting dentists, the Practice Manager and the front office, with a focus on keeping the surgery well run and patients comfortable.

Key responsibilities

• Provide chairside assistance for general, restorative and preventive treatments
• Prepare treatment rooms and sterilise instruments according to infection control standards
• Provide patient care and support before, during and after treatment
• Maintain accurate clinical records
• Manage stock and clinical supplies
• Assist with basic reception duties when required
• Keep the practice clean and well organised

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Dental Assistant and/or a Certificate III in Dental Assisting (or higher)
• Understanding of infection control and sterilisation procedures
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy team, with strong attention to detail and organisation
• Professional, reliable and well-presented manner, with a caring, patient-focused approach

Schedule

• Full-time: generally Monday to Friday, with flexibility for occasional late Thursday evenings and Saturday work
• Casual: average of 15 hours per week, including occasional Saturdays and late-night Thursdays
