Dean of Boarding – Senior Leadership Role

About the role

The Southport School is seeking an experienced, values‑driven leader to serve as Dean of Boarding for a five‑year tenure starting January 2027. This senior position oversees the pastoral care, wellbeing, safety and daily life of boarders in Years 7‑12, living on‑site to provide a visible, hands‑on presence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Director, Assistant Director, Heads of House and boarding staff to deliver a high‑quality boarding experience.
• Strategic and operational oversight of pastoral care, student conduct, academic support and personal development.
• Drive boarding growth, marketing initiatives and community engagement.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, scholarship and service aligned with the school’s values.
• Build and maintain stakeholder relationships with families, alumni and external partners.

Required profile

• Proven track record in strategic marketing and enrolment initiatives within a boarding ethos.
• Extensive experience leading and developing cohesive boarding teams.
• Strong understanding of effective pastoral care practices in a residential school setting.
• Commitment to ongoing professional learning in boarding practice (e.g., ABSA courses).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all school community levels.
