Data Governance Specialist

About the role

ALDI is hiring a permanent full-time Data Governance Specialist within its National Data Analytics (NDA) department, based in Minchinbury. The National Data Analytics Office drives data governance, quality and integrity across the business by setting up data controls, standards and processes, working with business and technology stakeholders to close data governance gaps so that data is accurate, reliable and fit for purpose.

Key responsibilities

• Assess business initiatives and data products to identify data ownership, quality, metadata, lineage, privacy and other governance requirements.
• Investigate data quality issues using Databricks and SQL, find root causes and work with accountable teams to set up remediation.
• Define data quality rules, thresholds and monitoring requirements, and decide where controls should apply across the data lifecycle.
• Assess new data acquisition and ingestion into Databricks for fitness for purpose, and set the required governance, metadata and quality requirements.
• Improve data usability and control through business definitions, metadata, lineage, ownership and Unity Catalog capabilities.
• Translate DAMA-DMBOK principles and NDO standards into practical requirements for Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Product Owners and business teams.
• Provide data governance input to DPIAs, business projects, international data management initiatives and emerging AI use cases.

Required profile

• Practical knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK disciplines, especially Data Governance, Data Quality and Metadata Management.
• Demonstrated experience applying data governance, data quality and data management practices to business or technology problems.
• Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills, able to turn ambiguous data issues into practical solutions independently.

Required skills

• Strong SQL and analytical capability, with experience investigating data on Databricks or comparable modern data platforms.
• Understanding of data ingestion, transformations, lineage, metadata and Unity Catalog or comparable catalog capabilities.
