Data Engineer

About the role

InterWorks is looking for a passionate Data Engineer to join its Perth office. You will work on a variety of projects, from short‑term tasks to multi‑month engagements, helping clients across local businesses and global enterprises turn raw data into actionable insights.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines for diverse data sources including relational databases, flat files, Excel, HDFS/Big Data systems, and analytical warehouses.
• Collaborate with business users to understand requirements and deliver tailored data solutions.
• Solve data acquisition, integration, and management challenges while managing client expectations.
• Create and optimise ETL processes using both GUI‑based tools and code‑based patterns.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a data engineering or similar role.
• Strong SQL fluency and solid understanding of data‑modelling principles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with non‑technical stakeholders.
• Adaptable, eager to learn, and able to thrive in a fast‑changing environment.

Required skills

• SQL
• ETL development (GUI tools or code)
• Informatica (IDMC), Matillion, Fivetran, dbt
• Cloud data platforms: Snowflake, Databricks, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Azure Synapse
• Experience with semi‑structured files and API integrations
