Cybersecurity Specialist – Defence Industry

About the role

As part of the Engineering and Sustainment Services group, the DDG Cybersecurity Specialist will provide expert advice, guidance and analysis for engineering changes on the in‑service Hobart Class destroyers within the Royal Australian Navy fleet. The role also supports architecture development, design coordination, technical investigations and risk assessments to improve program efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate cyber‑worthiness considerations into engineering efforts for systems, subsystems and networks.
• Assess and mitigate security threats and risks throughout the program lifecycle.
• Identify, define and analyse system security requirements.
• Plan and conduct security test and evaluation activities.
• Produce and maintain security documentation for ICT, emanation and physical security accreditation.
• Define and review security requirements for system components.
• Liaise with Australian Defence Security Authorities.
• Contribute to architecture development, design coordination and technical investigations.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in mechanical, electrical, computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience, preferably within the defence industry.
• Professional certifications such as Engineers Australia CPEng, INCOSE ASEP, CSEP or ESEP are desirable.
• Minimum 8 years of systems engineering experience, including complex, military and software‑intensive systems.
• Strong understanding of system engineering in an ASDEFCON context.
• Competent knowledge of network and network security.
• Proficiency with advanced systems‑engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler, Cradle).
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
