Cyber‑Security Engineer – Defence Systems

About the role

The Senior Cyber Security Engineer will lead system‑level cyber security across complex Defence programmes, defining requirements, developing secure architectures and managing risk to keep EOS material systems secure, compliant and resilient.

Key responsibilities

• Elicit, develop and manage cybersecurity requirements, baselines and controls.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to analyse customer cybersecurity requirements.
• Support development and test teams in implementing and validating cybersecurity requirements.
• Develop and manage key security documentation and lead assessment and authorisation activities.
• Act as the technical point of contact for system‑level cybersecurity discussions.
• Perform technical risk assessments, incident response support and threat‑risk/vulnerability assessments.
• Conduct threat modelling for new and existing systems and implement necessary controls and mitigations.
• Coach and mentor team members on cybersecurity designs and compliance.

Required profile

• University degree in Cyber Security, Technology or relevant Engineering discipline.
• Relevant cyber‑security certifications.
• Eligibility for Australian Defence security clearance (Baseline, NV1 or higher) and Australian citizenship.
• Proven experience with embedded systems in highly regulated sectors such as Defence, Automotive, Medical or Aerospace.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Required skills

• Systems Engineering methodologies, processes and toolsets.
• Secure software development, including DevSecOps pipelines and code analysis technologies.
• Threat modelling and vulnerability assessment techniques.
• Knowledge of ACSC Information Security Manual (ISM), Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
• Development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for security controls.
