Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

The Cyber Security Engineer is a hands-on technical role within the Infrastructure & Security Team, working closely with the wider Business Solutions Group to implement comprehensive network and security controls. The position sits in a not-for-profit health and community services organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Work with business units and other risk functions to identify security requirements, including risk and business impact assessments.
• Handle system security administration, gap analysis, security controls design and implementation.
• Support information security initiatives, including large-scale projects such as upgrading and hardening legacy operating systems and web applications.
• Perform vulnerability scanning, assessment and prioritisation of remediation for endpoints, servers and network devices.
• Translate solution designs into technical specifications and implementation steps, and analyse security architecture to recommend enhancements.
• Troubleshoot performance issues related to information security controls and review security policies and ISMS requirements to recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Degree in information technology or equivalent work experience; security-focused certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CISSP or Security+ are preferred.
• Previous experience in network or systems engineer roles in complex technology environments.
• Knowledge of IT security policies and procedures aligned with regulatory standards such as ISO 27001 or equivalent.
• Relevant probity checks required by legislation and company policy.
• Current driver's licence and willingness to travel for work.

Required skills

• Network and systems security: firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, anti-malware, SIEM, Active Directory, access control, O365 and Azure, OS hardening, vulnerability scanning and patching, CASB and cloud security.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
