Cyber Security Architect

About the role

The Australian Federal Police is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Architect to design and implement secure solutions for large‑scale transformation programmes. This role works closely with AFP project teams and system owners, providing expert technical advice and ensuring security governance across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design optimal security solutions for complex transformation initiatives.
• Guide project teams and system owners through security endorsement and approval processes.
• Produce and maintain security architecture documentation and present it to technical governance forums.
• Provide expert cyber security advice to other AFP business units.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify, communicate, investigate and resolve security issues in systems and services.
• Mentor and coach less experienced staff and contribute to improved ICT practices.

Required profile

• Ability to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 (AFP specific) security clearance.
• Professional experience at senior level (AFP Band 8 equivalent) in security architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with required on‑site presence in Canberra.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current IT knowledge.
