Controls System Engineer

About the role

The Controls System Engineer will report to the Operations Manager – WA and work closely with the Senior Control Systems Engineer. You will be responsible for maintaining, optimising and developing PLC, SCADA and process control systems that support Cockburn Cement’s manufacturing operations across Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and optimise PLC, SCADA and associated control systems.
• Provide technical support for automated manufacturing and processing plant operations.
• Diagnose and resolve control system faults to maximise plant reliability and availability.
• Support plant upgrades, capital projects, commissioning and system enhancements.
• Maintain operational networks and associated hardware.
• Collaborate with Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians, maintenance teams and IT/OT specialists.
• Develop and implement control strategies that improve performance and efficiency.
• Assist with production, environmental and performance reporting systems.
• Identify and drive continuous‑improvement opportunities across automation and control systems.
• Ensure work complies with safety, environmental and quality standards.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechatronic, Automation or Control Systems Engineering.
• Experience with PLC and SCADA systems in manufacturing, processing, mining, utilities or heavy‑industry environments.
• Strong fault‑finding, troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
• Proven track record delivering automation projects, system upgrades and process improvements.
• Understanding of industrial networks, instrumentation and process control principles.
• Effective communication with technical and operational stakeholders.
• Proactive approach to safety, reliability and continuous improvement.
