Control Room Operator - Underground Coal Mine

About the role

Anglo American is looking for experienced Control Room Operators for its Moranbah North underground coal mine in Queensland. Reporting to the Compliance Superintendent, the operator acts as the central coordination point for underground operations, monitoring the mine environment, communicating across the operation and supporting safe and efficient mining on a 24/7 basis. Multiple positions are available.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and coordinate underground activities to support safe and efficient mine operations
• Track and communicate changes in mine conditions so that appropriate actions are taken in a timely way
• Act as the main communication hub between underground crews and site leadership
• Provide accurate operational updates to shift personnel and management
• Maintain oversight of mine monitoring and communication systems
• Escalate and coordinate responses to operational issues, alarms and safety incidents
• Support emergency response and handle the communication and record-keeping for significant incidents
• Maintain accurate operational records, logs and shift reports

Required profile

• Previous experience as an underground coal mine control room operator
• Advanced knowledge of Safegas, citect/SCADA and gas chromatography
• Working knowledge of underground coal mining operations
• Advanced/Senior First Aid certificate preferred
• Exceptional attention to detail, teamwork and excellent communication skills
• Background screening, which may include a criminal check and qualification validation

Required skills

• Advanced computer literacy, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Expert knowledge of emergency response and first aid equipment
• Weather Guard, lightning tracker software and Minedash are desired but not essential
