Contracts Manager - Large Construction Project

About the role

A well-established, privately owned construction company delivering large, complex projects across commercial high-rise residential, education, health and government sectors has created a new Contracts Manager position. It is not a replacement role but follows a strong forward pipeline of work. You will lead the commercial function of a major project in Canberra, reporting to the Commercial Manager and working alongside the Project Manager and Site Manager in a team of around 15 to 25 people.

Key responsibilities

• Lead project execution from a commercial perspective and direct commercial and financial risk analysis, control and reporting, including monthly performance reviews
• Review head contract documentation and subcontract tenders, and vet and administer contractual documents while maintaining back-to-back conditions
• Develop and implement the procurement strategy and manage the procurement of subcontractors
• Manage progress claims, variations and Extension of Time processes for client and subcontractors, and resolve contractual disputes
• Lead project finalisation, including defects and close-out documentation
• Prepare and present monthly commercial and financial reports to management
• Lead and mentor Contract Administrators and Cadets and manage the wider commercial team

Required profile

• 7-10+ years as a Senior Contract Administrator (or equivalent) in construction, ready to lead the commercial function
• Commercial experience with a Tier 1, 2 or 3 contractor on projects of $50 million to $300 million or more
• Background in commercial high-rise residential, education, health, hospital or data centre construction highly desirable
• Experience leading a project administration or commercial team with direct reports
• Relevant degree in construction management, engineering, project management, building or construction (or equivalent experience)

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of contract law principles and relevant construction legislation
• Desirable: experience with CHEOPS, Aconex or similar construction management software

What we offer

• Salary of $180k-$250k plus superannuation
• Permanent, full-time position based on site at a major project in Woden, Canberra
