Consultant – Indirect Tax

About the role

BDO is seeking a Consultant to join its growing Indirect Tax team in Sydney. You will work closely with Partners, Directors and Managers to advise local and global organisations on a broad range of indirect tax matters, including GST, stamp duty, land tax and other state taxes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in delivering high‑quality advice on GST, stamp duty, payroll tax, land tax and other indirect tax matters across diverse industries.
• Support clients through major transactions such as M&A, restructures, due‑diligence reviews, property transactions and cross‑border arrangements.
• Help clients manage indirect tax obligations, including preparation of Business Activity Statements and duty submissions.
• Build trusted client relationships through regular interaction and participation in meetings.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in indirect tax within professional services, a law firm or government.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce, Law or a combined Law/Business degree.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships.

Required skills

• Strong technical capability to apply legislation and guidance in a practical, commercial context.
• Ability to interpret and advise on GST, stamp duty, payroll tax, land tax and other state tax regulations.
