Community Pastoral Care Volunteer

About the role

HammondCare is looking for a pastoral care volunteer to share an hour of companionship with an elderly client living at home in Caringbah. The volunteer supports the client's spiritual and emotional needs, offering comfort, presence and hope alongside the work of the HammondCare At Home Pastoral Care Coordinator. The volunteer works with a local Christian church and is expected to make weekly visits.

Key responsibilities

• Meet the client once a week for a one-hour visit, ideally between 9am and 4pm on weekdays, with flexible times discussed with the coordinator.
• Support the client to meet their spiritual needs and nurture their spiritual development.
• Offer a gentle presence, a listening ear and time spent together, bringing comfort, companionship and meaning to the client's week.

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older.
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
• Willingness to commit to weekly visits; flexible availability between 9am and 5pm.

Required skills

• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills.
• Pastoral care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or completion of HammondCare's Spiritual Care Series training.
