Community Friendship Visitor - Gardening & Cooking

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity that supports people to stay in their homes, is looking for a kind-hearted volunteer to visit an elderly lady who is feeling a little lonely. She enjoys talking about gardening and home cooking, hobbies she can no longer do herself but still loves to talk about. The visit brings companionship, stimulation and joy to her day.

Key responsibilities

• Visit the client once a week or every two weeks, for about one hour, between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Sunday.
• Look through gardening magazines and talk about favourite plants, flowers and garden memories.
• Share recipes and cooking stories.
• Pot plants together to brighten her space.
• Chat over a cup of tea.

Required profile

• 18 years or older.
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
• Working with Vulnerable People check.
• Enjoys gardening, cooking or simply spending time with others.
