Community Engagement Officer – Northern Territory

About the role

The Community Engagement team works to strengthen two‑way engagement and knowledge sharing with communities across Australia, focusing on disaster risk reduction. As a Community Engagement Officer in the Northern Territory, you will lead and deliver engagement initiatives from planning through to evaluation, supporting remote, First Nations, multicultural and transient communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation and evaluation of community engagement programmes across the NT’s diverse hazard environments.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with community organisations, emergency management agencies and government partners.
• Collaborate with the Bureau’s Hazard Preparedness and Response team in Darwin and contribute to national strategy and capability development.
• Support remote and very remote communities, including First Nations peoples, in preparing for and responding to natural hazards.

Required profile

• Excellent relationship‑building and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated experience in community engagement, preferably with First Nations peoples.
• Adaptable, outcomes‑focused and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work across remote, multicultural and transient populations.
