Communications Manager

About the role

Gayaa Dhuwi is the national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing, mental health and suicide prevention. The Communications Manager will lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s communications strategy, ensuring that all public‑facing outputs reinforce our policy priorities and reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with policy and reform priorities.
• Oversee production of media releases, website content, social media, digital assets, e‑newsletter, webinars, podcasts and the annual report.
• Provide strategic direction and quality oversight for all communications outputs.
• Collaborate closely with the CEO, Director of Policy and Director of Reform to ensure messaging consistency.
• Lead and mentor the Digital Media Officer, coordinating digital content creation and social media delivery.
• Translate complex policy information into clear, compelling communications for diverse audiences.

Required profile

• Senior‑level communications professional with strong strategic thinking.
• Excellent writing and editing abilities, capable of simplifying complex policy content.
• Experience working in a national peak‑body or advocacy environment.
• Ability to work respectfully within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership structures.
• Organised, thoughtful and able to maintain perspective in a fast‑changing policy landscape.
