Communications Coordinator – Internal

About the role

The University of Newcastle is seeking an Internal Communications Coordinator to shape how staff are informed, connected and engaged across the campus. You will work closely with a range of stakeholders to design and deliver communication initiatives that support strategic priorities and enhance the employee experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement communications plans that promote smarter work, connection and behavioural influence.
• Coordinate and produce staff communications such as intranet news, e‑newsletters, all‑staff emails and Staff Forums.
• Create, design and edit written, photographic and video content for internal channels.
• Maintain and optimise digital communication platforms to ensure relevance and usability.
• Analyse performance data, report on outcomes and recommend improvements.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary project teams supporting key university initiatives.
• Champion a culture of change, collaboration, continuous improvement and accountability.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent qualification with at least 2‑3 years of communications experience.
• Proven ability to plan, execute and evaluate communication strategies in a large organisation.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a track record of building effective relationships.
• Experience managing internal communication channels to best‑practice standards.
• Capability to thrive in a high‑volume environment with competing priorities.
• Understanding of workplace policies related to WHS, equity, diversity and respectful culture.
