Commis Chef - Qantas Lounge

About the role

A full-time Commis Chef is sought to join a fast-paced team at a Sydney Qantas Lounge, providing high-quality service to lounge passengers. The Commis Chef works between the a la carte and buffet areas, reporting directly to the Executive Chef and helping deliver a high-quality product to passengers. The role requires a rotating roster and the ability to pass a Federal Police clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing ingredients, including chopping, slicing, dicing and measuring food products.
• Execute cooking techniques and methods under the guidance of senior chefs, such as grilling, frying, baking and sautéing.
• Follow established recipes and instructions for the preparation and presentation of dishes.
• Assist in assembling and plating dishes to the established standards for portion size and presentation.
• Follow kitchen safety rules and guidelines, including the safe use of equipment and handling of hot items.

Required profile

• Minimum Cert IV cookery trade qualification (the text also lists Certificate III in Cookery).
• Experience in hospitality; experience in pans and larder operations and in high-pressure environments is valued, and previous experience in a luxury 5-star environment is highly regarded but not necessary.
• Full Australian working rights and the ability to pass a Federal Police background check.
• Ability to work a rotating roster.
