Commis Chef

About the role

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our vibrant kitchen team at Pullman East Melbourne. This hands‑on role is ideal for someone passionate about food, eager to learn and ready to build a culinary career in a fast‑paced, high‑quality hotel environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and presentation of dishes across à la carte, buffet, banqueting and room service.
• Support daily mise‑en‑place and kitchen prep to ensure smooth service.
• Prepare ingredients and cook basic dishes under the direction of senior chefs.
• Maintain a clean and organised workstation in line with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Work closely with the kitchen team to deliver consistent, high‑quality meals.

Required profile

• Previous kitchen experience in a hotel or similar fast‑paced environment.
• Exposure to à la carte service, especially restaurant service.
• Strong time‑management skills and ability to stay organised under pressure.
• Positive, team‑focused attitude with clear communication.
• Full working rights in Australia and availability for evening and overnight shifts.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of food safety standards.
• Knowledge of kitchen hygiene practices.
