Commercial Director - Oil and Gas

About the role

Keller Executive Search is partnering with a privately held energy and resource development company to appoint a Commercial Director to its Brisbane leadership team. This newly created senior position will shape the commercial foundations of a multi‑billion‑dollar energy investment, reporting to the General Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute commercial strategy, market positioning and work programme for major energy projects.
• Own project business cases, economic models, forecasts and investment recommendations.
• Identify, evaluate and advance strategic partnerships, joint ventures and commercial opportunities.
• Lead negotiations for offtake, supply, processing, transport and other long‑term agreements.
• Monitor energy markets, policy settings and pricing trends to support early positioning.
• Assess commercial, financial, counterparty and project‑development risks and implement mitigations.
• Represent the business with senior government stakeholders, industry forums and external partners.
• Collaborate across technical, operational and project‑development functions to align priorities.
• Support funding and bankability discussions by ensuring commercial structures protect long‑term value.

Required profile

• 12+ years of commercially accountable experience in oil & gas, LNG, refining or related energy sectors.
• Strong background with an energy operator, producer, refiner or marketer.
• Proven ownership of project economics, business cases and investment‑decision support for large capital projects.
• Experience leading complex, long‑term partnerships, joint ventures and offtake agreements.
• Deep understanding of hydrocarbon value chains, markets, pricing and commercialisation.
• Credibility presenting to executives, government officials and senior stakeholders.
• Tertiary qualification in engineering, business, law, economics or related discipline.
