Coal Technician – Laboratory Sampling & Analysis

About the role

Join SGS Australia’s Energy Minerals team as a Coal Technician, working in a modern laboratory environment to deliver high‑quality sampling, preparation and analysis services for coal samples. This permanent, full‑time position operates on a 12‑hour rotating roster, offering stability and hands‑on experience in a trusted global testing organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct accurate sampling, preparation and analysis of coal specimens following approved procedures.
• Record, store and report results ensuring traceability, precision and compliance with NATA and ISO 9001 standards.
• Assist with calibration and preventative maintenance of laboratory and preparation equipment.
• Follow routine and non‑routine sampling instructions from the Supervisor.
• Support general laboratory operations and undertake additional duties as required.

Required profile

• 6–12 months experience in a laboratory or chemical processing environment.
• Previous exposure to mineral or coal laboratory work is preferred.
• Basic computer skills; proficiency in Excel is beneficial.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Strong teamwork, communication and ability to work 12‑hour rotating rosters.
