Civil Lawyer – Supreme Court of Victoria

About the role

The Civil Lawyer will join the Registry of the Supreme Court of Victoria, providing primary legal support to internal and external stakeholders, including judicial officers and party representatives. The role assists senior lawyers in the Practice Court and the Testators Family Maintenance List, handling urgent applications and probate matters.

Key responsibilities

• Triaging proceedings for appropriate case management or urgent hearing and liaising with parties about listing.
• Assisting in timely management of applications, identifying and responding to complex and priority matters under senior lawyer guidance.
• Reviewing and preparing proceedings listed for urgent hearings and directions hearings.
• Supporting the Judge of the Practice Court during and after hearings.
• Providing assistance to Judicial Registrars and Senior Lawyers on the Testators Family Maintenance List.
• Performing case‑management and deputy prothonotary functions as required.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with experience in civil law matters.
• Ability to act as primary contact for judicial officers and party representatives.
• Experience supporting senior legal staff in urgent and probate contexts.
• Familiarity with the Administration and Probate Act 1958 and related court procedures.
