CHPP Maintenance Technician – Mechanical

About the role

The Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) needs a motivated Maintenance Technician – Equipment Inspector (Mechanical) to help keep plant reliability and performance at peak levels. Working closely with maintenance, planning and engineering teams, you will inspect equipment, develop work scopes and support safe, efficient maintenance execution.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect mechanical equipment, identify defects and suggest improvement opportunities.
• Develop detailed work scopes from inspections, condition monitoring and engineering recommendations.
• Ensure maintenance work is planned, documented and ready for execution.
• Support shutdown planning, scheduling and coordination of maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with engineering to devise repair strategies and improve equipment reliability.
• Review completed work to confirm it meets required standards.
• Assist with risk assessments, root‑cause analysis investigations and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Prepare change‑management documentation and material requests.
• Provide support to other equipment inspector roles and assist with breakdown troubleshooting when required.

Required profile

• Mechanical or fabrication trade qualification.
• Experience in CHPP or infrastructure maintenance.
• Proven ability to prepare job scopes and support maintenance planning.
• Familiarity with Australian Standards related to structural integrity and welding.
• Basic understanding of non‑destructive testing (NDT).
• Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
• Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) or willingness to obtain one.

Required skills

• Use of a Computerised Maintenance Management System (e.g., Pulse or similar).
• Knowledge of Australian Standards for structural integrity and welding.
• Basic non‑destructive testing (NDT) techniques.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) or ability to acquire it.
