Chief Steward - River Cruise

About the role

The Chief Steward plays a pivotal role in ensuring guests have an exceptional and memorable experience throughout their river cruise journey. The position starts in October 2025 and pays above market salary. It covers guest services, accommodation, dining and general hospitality, as well as planning and coordinating onboard entertainment and activities.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee guest cabin preparation and maintenance, and coordinate with housekeeping on guest concerns and special requests
• Supervise dining room staff and work with the culinary team to deliver excellent service, including dietary needs
• Act as a main point of contact for guests, handling concerns and complaints promptly
• Lead and train the steward team, schedule shifts and allocate responsibilities
• Manage guest supply inventory and monitor usage and costs
• Ensure compliance with health and safety and food safety regulations, with regular inspections and training
• Plan and run onboard entertainment, events and activities, and coordinate shore excursions with local guides and vendors
• Gather guest feedback and stay informed of industry trends

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in hospitality management, tourism, event planning or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience considered
• Essential previous experience in hospitality, tourism or the cruise industry; prior leadership experience is beneficial
• Proven track record of customer service in a high-end or luxury environment
• Experience planning and running events, and managing budgets and resources for guest services

Required skills

• Team leadership, training and shift scheduling
• Exceptional verbal and written communication; being multilingual is an asset
• Familiarity with health and safety and food safety standards
• Adaptability to a fast-paced environment, problem solving and creativity in guest experiences
