Chief Officer – Expedition Cruise Ship

About the role

The Chief Officer joins the competent crew of Coral Expeditions’ expedition cruise ships, working closely with the Master and Chief Engineer to ensure the safety of the vessel, passengers and crew. This senior deck position requires strong seamanship and a high level of customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Master in navigation and vessel safety management.
• Oversee deck operations, passenger safety, and emergency procedures.
• Manage crew scheduling, training and performance.
• Maintain ship inventory, stock‑take procedures and helm systems.

Required profile

• Proven deck experience, preferably on passenger ships.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Passionate about the marine environment and safety culture.
• Ability to work effectively in a team on extended voyages.

Required skills

• Master ticket (Master Unlimited/Chief Mate).
• GMDSSECDIS – TRANSAS certification.
• Proficiency in Survival Craft operations.
• AMSA Endorsed Certificate of Safety Training (CoST).
• Crowd control & crisis management certification.
• AMSA Medical, Remote Area First Aid & Advanced CPR.
• ASSB or equivalent discharge book.
• Familiarity with ship inventory systems (HELM) and ISM standards.
