Chief Human Resources Officer

About the role

The Chief Human Resources Officer provides strategic leadership for the People and Culture function of the Department of Housing and Public Works. Reporting to the Deputy Director‑General, Corporate Services, the role advises the Director‑General, Executive Leadership Team and senior stakeholders on complex workforce, organisational and people matters while contributing to enterprise‑wide strategy, governance and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent, strategic advice to executive leadership on complex workforce issues.
• Lead enterprise workforce strategy, including planning, succession, talent management and leadership capability development.
• Drive organisational performance, remuneration frameworks and workforce governance.
• Build partnerships across government to influence workforce and leadership reform.
• Oversee workforce analytics, reporting and people insights to support data‑driven decision‑making.
• Promote inclusive, high‑performing and psychologically safe workplaces.

• Demonstrated record of success as a leader in a large, complex organisation.
• Outstanding leadership capability and ability to translate strategy into tangible outcomes.
• Expertise in contemporary human resource management practices.
• Proven experience leading organisational change and fostering a capable, confident workforce.
