Chief Executive Officer
Gymnastics Australia · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
Gymnastics Australia is the national governing body for gymnastics, working with eight member associations across every state and territory to support more than 220,000 participants, from grassroots clubs to elite high performance. It has an ambitious ten-year strategy targeting substantial growth in participation by 2032 and a full season of international competition ahead. Reporting to the Board, the CEO will lead the organisation through a period of growth and reinvention.
Key responsibilities
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with state and territory associations, their leaders and clubs, and set a credible, well-evidenced growth strategy for the sport.
- Diversify revenue beyond traditional funding sources, using genuine commercial acumen.
- Bring stability and clear direction to the national team and challenge the existing competition and delivery model where it will benefit the sport.
- Provide strategic oversight of the high-performance program.
- Maintain strong relationships with the Australian Sports Commission and other key stakeholders, upholding the organisation's integrity and safeguarding framework.
Required profile
- Senior executive with a demonstrated track record of leading complex, federated or member-based organisations at scale.
- Experience leading leaders and structuring teams around a clear strategy, not just executing within a single function.
- Credibility to earn the trust of a diverse and sometimes competing stakeholder group quickly.
- Strong commercial and strategic capability, including a track record of building the business case for growth and identifying investments with a return.
- Emotional intelligence combined with intellectual rigour: personable and collaborative, yet able to hold a firm line on priorities.
- Candidates from outside the sport are welcome, provided they bring genuine experience of sport or another comparable stakeholder-heavy environment.
Applications close on 1 November 2026. Applicants submit a resume of no more than four pages and a cover letter of no more than two pages.
