Casual Security Officer - St Lucia Campus

About the role

The University of Queensland (UQ) is hiring casual security officers for its St Lucia Campus. The security team supports a large-scale 24/7 operation, responding to incidents, patrolling, securing buildings, assisting staff, students and visitors, monitoring security systems and supporting emergency responses through the Emergency Operations Centre. The pay is a casual rate of $46.47 per hour plus 12% superannuation.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to alarms, medical emergencies, fire emergencies and other incidents
• Conduct campus patrols and secure University buildings and grounds
• Provide access to authorised personnel
• Monitor security systems and support operations within the Emergency Operations Centre
• Respond professionally to enquiries and concerns from staff, students and visitors
• Escalate urgent or high-priority matters to the Security Supervisor
• Support enforcement of parking and traffic regulations
• Conduct preliminary investigations as directed and prepare clear, detailed incident reports
• Perform other reasonable duties as directed by security leadership

Required profile

• Current Queensland Certificate II in Security Operations, including Security Officer Unarmed, Crowd Control, Bodyguard and Monitoring units
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID009 Provide CPR
• Current Queensland manual open driver's licence
• Unrestricted work rights in Australia; employer-sponsored work rights are not available
• Experience responding to emergency or operational incidents
• Availability to complete an initial five-week period of full-time training, after which work is casual and depends on operational needs

Required skills

• Knowledge of security methodologies and practices
• Confidence using security monitoring systems and related technologies
• Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain records
• Sound judgement, decision-making and ability to work independently and as part of a 24/7 team
