Casual Emergency Services Support Staff - Western Victoria

About the role

GBS Recruitment, a labour hire partner of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, is recruiting a pool of casual workers to support emergency response operations across Western Victoria. Work is on an as-needed, on-call basis during significant bushfires and other natural disasters, covering base camp operations, logistics, equipment management and day-to-day support for emergency response teams. Pay is $35.06-$41.00 per hour depending on position.

Key responsibilities

• Ground Support Workers: set up and maintain temporary base camps, distribute and manage clothing, supplies and equipment, refuel vehicles, help with food preparation and meal distribution, and perform general labouring and manual handling.
• Forklift Drivers: operate forklifts to load, unload and move materials and equipment, support stock and supply organisation, help with base camp logistics and inventory, and follow site safety procedures.
• Supervisors: supervise and coordinate teams of casual support workers, allocate daily tasks, act as a point of contact between support personnel, management and agencies, and monitor workplace health and safety compliance.

Required profile

• Current driver's licence; current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one.
• Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand citizen with valid working rights, with birth certificate or passport as proof.
• Appropriate qualifications and licences for forklift or plant operation where applicable.
• Strong work ethic, good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Flexibility to take short-notice assignments, including shifts of up to 12 hours for up to seven consecutive days, travel to locations across Western Victoria and staying away from home for several days or nights with basic accommodation and meals provided.
